Planning a trip to Casablanca

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its economic centre, and for most visitors it is a starting point rather than a destination — Mohammed V is the country's main international airport, so a lot of trips simply begin here.

The one unmissable sight is the Hassan II Mosque, built partly out over the Atlantic with a 210-metre minaret. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslims can go inside, on a guided visit, and the scale of it is genuinely impressive. Beyond that, the interest is architectural: the centre has a dense stock of 1920s and 1930s Mauresque and art deco buildings, which reward a walk if that is your thing.

Our Casablanca itineraries are the long ones — grand circuits of nine to fifteen days that take in Marrakech, the Atlas, the desert and often Fes and Chefchaouen before returning. If you have less than a week and are flying into Casablanca, it is usually better to transfer to Marrakech or Fes and start there.

Should I spend time in Casablanca or head straight out?

Unless the mosque or the art deco architecture is a specific draw, head out. Half a day covers the highlights, and the country gets more interesting the further south you go. Many of our Casablanca tours visit the mosque on the first morning and drive on the same day.

Can you collect us from the airport?

Yes. We meet arrivals at Mohammed V and start the itinerary from there, including early morning landings. Send us your flight number when you book and we will track it.
