Fes Morocco Tours

Private Morocco tours from Fes — desert crossings to Merzouga, the Middle Atlas and routes on to Marrakech.

Planning a trip to Fes Morocco Tours

Tours starting in Fes have one structural advantage: the desert is closer. The road south through Ifrane and Midelt and down the Ziz Valley reaches Merzouga in seven to eight hours, against nine or ten from Marrakech, which makes short desert trips from Fes noticeably less punishing.

Most of these itineraries run one way, finishing in Marrakech after crossing the gorges and the kasbah road. That avoids retracing the same route and works neatly if you fly into one city and out of the other.

The three-day version is the classic Fes desert run — down to the dunes, a night at camp, and back through the Ziz. Longer tours add Todra, Dades, Aït Ben Haddou and time in Marrakech at the end.

Questions about Fes Morocco Tours

Is Fes a better starting point than Marrakech?

For the desert, slightly — Fes to Merzouga is a shorter drive than Marrakech to Merzouga, so you reach the dunes with more of the day left. Marrakech has the better flight connections. Most travellers do best flying into one and out of the other, which our Fes-to-Marrakech routes are built around.

Do I need a guide for the Fes medina itself?

For the medina, yes — it is the largest car-free urban area in the world and genuinely disorienting. A local Fes guide is arranged separately from the tour driver-guide and is worth the half day. Ask us and we will book one.

Where do these tours finish?

Most finish in Marrakech, crossing the Middle Atlas, the Ziz Valley, the desert and the gorges on the way. Round trips back to Fes are available if your flights need it — just say so when you enquire.

How long is the drive from Fes to the Sahara?

Roughly nine to ten hours with stops, through Ifrane and the cedar forest at Azrou, then down the Ziz Valley. It is a full day, and it is one of the more scenic drives in the country rather than a slog.
